Here!, originally uploaded by Gnome Inkpen.

Here island, owned by Torley Linden. Rox. ^_^

I’ve recently stopped using Picasa for most of my Second Life picture uploads, and started using Flickr instead. The appeal of Picasa was I just used my regular Google accounts login for the whole thing. But now I’ve found Flickr to be MUCH more enjoyable and sociable. More people interact with you and your content. So HERE is where all of mah new pix will be. :D

YAYZERAMA!

Thx, Gnome.

First, “creaticism” (not creationism) is a word I just made up, it’s not real (if you didn’t already take the plunge and guess that.) I’d love to see people more often be criticizing, with a constructive (i.e., constructive criticism) attitude, creative thought and idea’s. It’s all to often where people criticize without fully understanding a situation, without being open to new idea’s or being creative in the process. I LOVE criticism because it helps me improve and in the end everyone is better for it. But I dislike it when someone criticizes without fully understanding something, or without providing some creative thought on it. How can I improve? Why do you think it’s, “wrong” “not right” “improper” etc, etc. What can I add, do or say? These are all things (and not even close to all) that I like hearing with criticism.  It helps me not only understand what you’re trying to say, but it helps me understand what I can do to improve.

Now maybe we won’t all be calling it “creaticism” but it would be nice, if we used creativity, understanding, and rationality when delivering criticism. Remember those words your parents taught you “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” that’s partially good. Partially not, because if we don’t sometimes take a risk of making a person upset with what we’re saying, how will they ever know to improve or how.

Though in some cases we just have to face that sometimes the things we do, say, or think about are going to always (sadface) face criticism that is never going to be rational, creative, or understanding. I like the colors pink, green,  and watermelons. I love Stargazer lily’s (the pink ones) my favorite holiday is Valentines, and I am what most would classify as obsessed (I just call it love) with a guy. Those six traits face LOTSA criticism, does it get to me? Not one tiny bit. So what I’m driving at here, is that we all need to be approachable and acceptable when delivering and receiving *good* and *bad* criticism.

Hate my entire idea? Hate me (OMG sadface)? Think my idea/theory needs improvement? AWESOME but, please be creative, understanding, and informed when you criticize (creaticism rather.)

Thanxarama!

Gnomeh.

Torley is always so inspirational and just awesome, like here ^

It’s amazing to me, that so many people still either don’t know this wiki exists or just don’t know how to use it. It’s a daily part of my Second Life, and it’s a helpful resource and a great collaboration tool.

What is the wiki you ask?

Well, the term wiki is a general term and doesn’t just relate to Second Life. You probably have used a wiki perhaps without even knowing it, know wikipedia.org? (of course you do) that’s a wiki! It allows anyone to edit, make changes etc, and add/delete content from it. Each user has their own account, and their own user page.

What is it used for in Second Life?

It is used for so many things, collaboration, office hours, documentation pages, user pages, and so much more. You don’t even need to sign up for it! You already are, simply go HERE and use your Second Life username and password. TIP: Make SURE you are at the official wiki.secondlife.com website, before entering in your account information!

How do I learn how to change and format my ‘page’?

Go HERE and HERE!

In the future, I’d like to do a ‘lil Q&A about the wiki, what YOU can use it for, and how YOU can contribute. Until then this should be a small, but good starting point. Once you get use to changing around your own pages, you will know how to change other pages! (it works the same way).

Thanxarama!

As many of you know, Linden Labs has disbanded the official Second Life Mentor group, and have created the Resident Help Network or RHN for short. Today, I thought I’d see what I could do, to contribute and decided to start my own resident-run mentor group. Right now, it is not apart of the Resident Help Network, I’m hopeful that it will be soon, but I have yet to even send in an application for it. However I’m not to concerned about it becoming one or not, I simply want to create a good group for helping people out.

So I thought I’d help get the word out there by writing a quick post about it. You can find out more by going to HERE the wiki page for it. You can also view and submit an application form on that page, which will help you become a Happeh Mentor!

If you’d like to find out more send me an IM in-world or drop me an e-mail!

Merry (happy) thanksgiving!

I’m Canadian, so it’s a little over for me. But for all the Americans out there, eh (had to add some Canadianosity). Merry thanksgiving!

On a side note, I love hearing about what people are doing in Second Life. So let me know, in-world, comments, e-mail, anyway you like!

Thankies,

Gnome.

EDIT: I’d like to mention that there are quite a few copybotted, and fake versions of the MultiHUD going around. Please ensure I (Gnome Inkpen) am the creator and am the one that sold it to you. If I am not, it is a fake. Send me a notecard with who is distributing/selling it, and I’ll send you a real version for your trouble.

Thankyuh so much!

Your mousey friend.

If you’re a Second Life voice user, I can without a doubt that you once had to ask someone in a Sandbox or Welcome Area “Can anyone hear me?” And I can also say with pretty good certainty that someone in said Sandbox or Welcome Area, yelled at you because of your mic setup not working and causing static or other issues, that you just weren’t aware of. Fear not! (total nerd saying? fear not.) top hat’s off to Kyle Linden, Ekim Linden, Patch Linden, Tescalation Team, and Vivox (Second Life’s voice partners.) for putting together “Voice Echo Canyon.” Voice Echo Canyon is a region dedicated to allowing new (and old users!) to test their voice, without having to bother anyone else to do so. While there, no one else can hear you when your on voice (so don’t feel funny, repeatedly saying “Test, test, test, 1, 2 3, gosh work!”) and you can’t hear them either. All you hear is yourself, your audio being fed through and played in your speakers.

Go and try it out! And as always, if you need any help. Let me know. ^_^

Gnome Inkpen. :D
